Do you need to install an App for DeCloudUs to work
A question we hear a lot: do I need to install something for DeCloudUs to work? No. One DNS setting on the device does all the protecting. The DeCloudUs app is simply an additional convenient way to access your dashboard, living on your home screen — your profiles, your rules and Dex one tap away, with sign-in by face or fingerprint.
You do not need an app to be protected
DeCloudUs works at the DNS level, which is a setting every device already has. Set it once and every app on that device follows it — nothing runs in the background, nothing needs to stay open, and nothing needs installing. It is also why it works on consoles and TVs, where you could not install anything if you wanted to.
What the app is for
Your profiles
Every profile you have, with its categories, blocked apps, custom rules and schedules — everything the dashboard does on a computer, from your phone.
Dex, in your pocket
Tell Dex what you want — “block TikTok on the kids’ devices” — and it is done, wherever you happen to be.
Logs, when you want them
Logs stay off unless you turn them on. Where you have, see what a device has been connecting to, and clear them whenever you like.
Installing it
You will not find the DeCloudUs app in the App Store or on Google Play, and that is on purpose. It installs straight from your browser, from the same address you sign in at, and there is nothing to approve or pay for.
iPhone and iPad
Open the dashboard in Safari, tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen.
Android
Open the dashboard in Chrome. It offers to install itself — say yes, or pick Add to Home screen from Chrome’s menu.
Computers
In Chrome or Edge, click the install icon at the right of the address bar, or choose Install from the browser’s menu.
From then on it opens from its own icon, full screen, like any other app. It keeps itself up to date too, so there is never an update to download.
Signing in with a passkey
A passkey lets you sign in the way you already unlock your phone or laptop: Face ID, Touch ID, a fingerprint, or a hardware security key. Nothing to type, nothing to remember, and nothing to steal — a passkey only ever works on our own site, so a lookalike page cannot trick it out of you.
- Sign in as usual, with the code we send to your email.
- Open Account › Security and choose Add passkey. We will ask you to confirm it is you first.
- Next time, pick the Passkey tab on the sign-in page and unlock it the way you unlock your device. That is the whole sign-in.
Add one on each device you use — your phone, your laptop, a security key in a drawer — and the email code is always there as a fallback.
Frequently asked
- Does the DeCloudUs app filter my DNS?
- No. The protection comes from the device’s DNS setting, and it works whether or not the app is installed. The app is where you manage your profiles, rules and settings.
- Is the DeCloudUs app in the App Store or Google Play?
- No. It installs from the browser: Share, then Add to Home Screen in Safari on an iPhone or iPad; the install offer in Chrome on Android; the install icon in Chrome or Edge on a computer.
- What do I need to sign in with a passkey?
- A device with Face ID, Touch ID, a fingerprint reader or a screen lock, or a hardware security key. Sign in with your email code once, then add the passkey under Account › Security.
- What if I lose the device my passkey is on?
- Sign in on another device with your email code, then remove the lost device’s passkey under Account › Security. Removing a passkey also signs you out everywhere else, so whoever has the device is out too.
